What to Sell on eBay – The Best Categories
There are many categories that do extremely well when you are selling on eBay, so it can get overwhelming finding the best one. It is very important you find at least two categories that you really like. To find out what categories really float your boat, just ask yourself the following questions:
- What are my passions?
- What do I know a lot about?
- What are my hobbies?
it is VERY important whatever you are selling must be aligned with your interest because it will make everything easier in the long run. If you are having FUN selling, you will be much more successful.
My passion has always been car parts, so that is what I sell on eBay. Not only do I have fun selling car parts, but I am very knowledgeable when a customer has questions. It just makes things easier!
Alright now lets get back to “what to sell on eBay”
Generally the best categories that sell are:
- Art, Lithographs, Painting, Sculpture
- Rare Coins & Stamps
- Antique and Unique Furniture
- Vintage Linens, Home Decor, & House Wares
- Jewelry & Watches
- Military Collectibles, WWII, WWI, and Civil War
- Movie Memorabilia prior to 1970
- Musical Instruments in good condition
- Music Memorabilia, concert items, autographs.
- Outdoor / Outerwear (Carhartt, Filson, etc.)
- Vintage paper, magazines, maps, newsprints, tickets, etc.
- Sports Equipment & Sports Memorabilia prior to 1970
- Television Memorabilia
- Toys, Games, Dolls, & Bears
- Pins, Pin backs, Buttons, Political etc.
- Vintage items (1950’s – 1970’s)
- Medical Memorabilia, Medical Hoax
- Dolls, Barbie prior to 1960
- Depression Glass / Carnival Glass /. Vaseline Glass
- China, Dinnerware, Porcelain, Bone China, up to 1970
- Vehicles, Parts, & Accessories
- Regional items (States, Cities, Memorials)
As you can see my car parts are in that category “Vehicle, Parts & Accessories”.
The categories you should just AVOID completely are:
- Beanie babies and the like
- Danbury and Franklin Mint
- General Items (including clothing) that could be found at Kmart / Target, etc.
- Sports Cards from 1980 – Present
- Toys from the 90’s
- Records, LP’s 45’s Cassettes or 8 Track Tapes. (I have tried selling records!)
- Real Estate & Timeshares
Seriously, who is going to buy “Cassettes” LOL.
Now you know the categories you avoid and choose, what kind of items are best?
I just do a quick search on eBay for the item I am interested in and see what is selling.
What I am going to show you next is just an example, but this is how you should start all your item research. So you will know exactly what to sell on eBay.
My search term is “Sofa Set”
When your “What to sell on eBay” search is complete, on the left hand side scroll down until you see “SHOW ONLY” and it will have the following:
- Returns accepted
- Completed Listings
- Sold listings
You are going to check the BOX that says Sold listings
Now scroll back to the top and see what are the MOST expensive items that are selling on eBay. (I will reveal how to source these items without having them on hand). Yes I know where to get Sofa Sets as well for much cheaper where you can make $200-500 per item. Where did I learn these techniques?
